We were working on a project this past weekend compiling and analyzing hundreds of sold listings in Cabbagetown for all of 2012. While doing so we came across perhaps the most hilarious description of a property written by a real estate agent that we have ever seen. We often find typos or bad grammar, but had never seen anything quite like this before.
Laughing hysterically, we took turns reading it to each other with increasing levels of theatricality. In the end, we preferred to read it as a limerick. Here it is word for word but as a limerick inspired stanza.
Very Good Opportunity Of Investment In Town Town
Builders Are Moving Fast Towards East of Down Town
So You Can Cash This
Opportunity On Proper Time
Or Rebuild Your Dream Home In Care Of Downtown.
We think it is still a work-in-progress since the rhythm’s not quite down. But isn’t this a rather clever way for an agent to test their poetic skills against a public audience?
We totally get that English is not everyone’s first language – but really? You’d think if that was the case you’d get the office receptionist to load it into the MLS system for you. This description is what the public sees when they are looking for a home on realtor.ca and numerous other websites. But, then again, maybe the receptionist notice did notice and simply thought it was as hilarious as we did – that’s what we choose to believe!
