Sure, it’s September and for many summer is “over” but that doesn’t mean it’s time to hole-up for the winter. This week is the Cabbagetown Festival and we are ready to keep that summertime feeling alive.
What’s on tap this week:
Sept. 6th: One Night in Cabbagetown
We think you should spend more than one night in the neighbourhood but this is a great way to start things off. We can’t help but get “One Night In Bangkok” stuck in our head every time we mention this event, but the music at the various venues will certainly get it out. For $10 you get to pick 4 locations to visit and sample some food and drink. Deal.
Sept. 7th: Cabbagetown Short Film and Video Festival
Local and international, fast-paced, diverse. In 2 hours watch 15 shorts. All in one spot, one night only. Beat that, TIFF.
Sept. 7-9th: Cabbagetown Arts and Craft Sale
Wander around 170 vendor’s booths and find some real treasures. Located in Riverdale Park right beside the Riverdale Farm, (which is also hosting its annual Riverdale Farm Festival!) It’s a great opportunity to get outside and shop. How perfect is that.
Sept. 7-9th: Cinderella… if the shoe fits!
This year’s production by the Cabbagetown Theatre Group promises to be a lively show full of laughs for all ages. With eleven half-hour performances over the weekend and $5 admission it’s a great opportunity to rest your feet and be entertained!
Sept. 8-9th: Cabbagetown Festival of the Arts
This is the biggie, the glue that holds it all together. Parliament St. is closed from Wellesley to Gerrard so you can take it all in on foot.
On Saturday Blair’s Run kicks things off in support of the Cabbagetown Youth Centre. After the Run the annual Parade starts at 10am; with local talent and groups, it short, sweet and fun. The street then becomes home to vendors, food, performers and artists.
With something for everyone, even your dog, it’s a great way to experience the neighbourhood and to meet your neighbours!
Sept. 9th: RFAC Pancake Breakfast
From 9:30-11:30am get fueled up to start the final day of the festival with a breakfast that includes pancakes, sausages, and a beverage for only $5. Proceeds go to support the Riverdale Farm.
And, to round it all out, there will be walking tours and yard sales taking place all weekend as well. We know you’ll be as charmed by Cabbagetown as we are. Summer, thanks for sticking around just a little bit longer!
